Volunteer Docents

The International Art Museum of America (IAMA) is seeking volunteers to be trained as docents at our museum. We are a small non-profit art museum located in downtown San Francisco. IAMA is home to a unique collection of art from around the world, and our mission is to share this diverse collection with the public in order to foster peace and cultural understanding.

-Answering visitors' questions about the collection
-Giving directions as needed
-Guiding tour groups
-Assisting with reception on occasion
-Surveying the gallery to make sure visitors follow museum rules (i.e. no photography, no food/drinks, etc.

Requirements:

-Volunteers must be comfortable standing or walking for extended periods of time
-Minimum commitment of three shifts per week (each shift is 3.5 hours)

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to gain valuable experience in a museum. Individuals with a history or interest in art, teaching, and museums are encouraged to apply. No prior experience necessary, but familiarity with art history and terminology would be helpful.
