The International Art Museum of America presents "A Flower's Tale of a Thousand Years: Awakening the Senses"

The exhibit opens up with a 3-day event at the museum’s new space, #tendergold, as well as arrangements throughout the permanent collection in the upstairs gallery.

(SAN FRANCISCO, CA) -- On May 4-6, 2018, IAMA which opened in 2011 in the Central Market/Civic Center neighborhood, welcomes all to enjoy in its full vibrancy of color, texture and scent the inaugural exhibition titled A Flower's Tale of A Thousand Years: Awakening the Senses. The show is an homage to the practice of Chinese floral arrangement and is made possible by the Chinese Floral Arts Foundation USA-Chapter and the Chinese Floral Art Foundation Taiwan, hosted by the International Art Museum of America.

Founded in 1986, the Chinese Floral Arts Foundation was created to revive the ancient floral arts dating back to the Han Dynasty, used for religious ceremonies and festivals. Later, it became popular in imperial and intellectual households. For over 30 years now, the Foundation has developed a contemporary expression of the floral art and has worked with museums and art groups worldwide. This May, the Foundations bring their first exhibition ever to IAMA. On display will be a variety of magnificent floral arrangements inspired by the seasons and the history of Chinese culture. #BeAScholarForADay and experience the floral art demonstration, classes and tea ceremony. Truly a hands on experience you will not want to miss.

With guidance from the foundation, IAMA is proud to embrace a culture and technique that evolved through centuries to now stand uniquely as its own. Whether small enough to fit into the palm of your hand or large enough to decorate a grand hall, the art form gives representation to the delicate union of spirit and life form, and of the journey to understanding mankind.

The exhibit is open to the public from May 4-6, 2018 during general admission hours. The 3-Day event schedule is as follows:

May 4 | VIP Reception from 4:30pm - 8:00pm | Wine & H'Ordeuvres | Q+A with Master Florists
May 5 & 6 | Awakening the Senses: A Chinese Floral Arrangement Workshop | 3:30pm - 5:00pm | $35 | Tickets at IAMASF.ORG.
